I always notice these two 'dream' sequences.
Are they both dreams, or is one a dream and one a message from some sort of 'beyond'?

I ask because the first 'dream' Caroline isn't particularly nice to Alex when she has a go at her about "You could have warned me!" etc about the 1.8 car bomb.

But in the second dream Caroline is being very nice an encouraging twards Alex, encouraging her that she will get back because she's a mother too.

So is one just a dream to spook Alex and the other a real message from beyond?
What do you reckon?

I dunno, I thought Caroline was lovely in the end when we saw the other side to her in the interview room.

Overall though she was a horrid character. She treated Alex with contempt both as a child and an adult and I think Alex was probably better off with Evan. Even though Tim ultimately killed Caroline I think he cared for Alex more.

I absolutely adored Caroline!! She and Alex had a real bond as powerful women in a man's world, and their relationship was one of Mother and Daughter even though Caroline didn't know it. The way she said things like "is there something you need to tell me?" or when she said in the interview room that they should reconvene when Alex was a little less excited are the things a Mother would say to her child. I thought this was heartbreaking, although those lines could be taken as her being contemptuous to Alex. I suppose it was really, but Alex's behaviour may have brought that out in Caroline, as Alex of course acted oddly and childishly around her in parts. There were so many absolutely gorgeous, heart-wrenching scenes between the two, and the very end one in the interview room just left me sobbing
I just loved Caroline all the time. When she was being lovely and when she was being that powerful woman, even when she said the "pussycat" thing to Gene.
I also don't think she treated little Alex with contempt at all. The only scene I can think of which might show this is the one where Caroline leaves Alex alone at school, the one to which big Alex pronounced "It's not real, I will not get upset" or whatever the quote was. We see Caroline being a kind and encouraging Mum in the Rubix Cube scene, and we also hear her talking about "Lexi" very fondly, and of course telling big Alex that she loved her daughter in that final scene.
Amelia and Keeley just worked SO well together on screen, I wish this had been celebrated by ciritcs more. All I've read is bad things about people who couldn't care less if Caroline hung!
Also, I always hated Tim, I didn't see any warmth from him, towards anybody, not even little Alex. I know there's that niceish Narnia scene, but just look at the one where she's wearing his wig and he's chasing her round the courtroom. It shouldbe playful, but look at his face. It's mad, angry looking. He's an absolute control-freak, and that's why he tried to murder his wife and child. He may have loved them both, but he also wanted to control them.
ANyway, sorry, off topic. As for the dream sequences, the first one where Caroline is unkind to Alex I think is just something she is seeing because that's what she's thinking and feeling right then. She's questioning herself now because she's seen that history COULD in fact be changes as she's witness younger Summers being shot, and so it's brought the fact that she didn't save her parents back to her, she's feels incredible guilt and she's imagining her Mum saying these things to her.
In the second one, I believe this is more a message from Caroline, or even if it's imaginary, it's more true to Caroline's character and what she would actually say to Alex. Caroline knows that Alex is a Mum in this one, and that she has to get back, so either this is a dream - as how could Caroline know that? - or Caroline is in another world somewhere and has seen Alex's 2008 life somehow. I'm not saying she might have time-travelled or anything, perhaps she's just "beyond the grave" and has seen into Alex's life...who knows, I think both sequeneces work perfectly, the first is heartbreaking and the second reconfirms that bond between them again, and reassures Alex that she is still loved by her Mum, and also makes the feeling that she HAS to get back to Molly even stronger.

Sorry for the ramble, I just :love4: Caroline a bit too much!

Yeah, I didn't have a ton of issues with Caroline, either. Tim, on the other hand...I found him a bit creepy.

Yep, I agree with GENE4ALEX on virtually all points. I thought Caroline was a great character too, and loved the fact that Alex and Caroline's relationship wasn't perfect and Alex did take a journey of discovery and acceptance. I was almost as pleased to see Caroline's familiar face in 2x07 as Alex was.

Anyway, to the dreams. I agree that the first one is a result of Alex feeling guilty that maybe she could have saved Caroline after all. The second, I think it's Alex just desperate for reassurance from someone that it's going to be all right. The one person who seems to know how to get home - Martin Summers - is seemingly not going to help her, and the more she finds about him the more it seems to be undermining all the things she believed about the Genieverse. A scarier place to be in an already scary place, and when you're scared, who you gonna call imagine in your dreams? Your mum.

I didnt like Caroline from the moment I saw her, she struck me as to being a bit of a control freak who didnt care about anyone else but herself.

Those are awesome pyjamas

I was very fond of Caroline's character, and imagined she was what Alex was like as a parent in 2008. Loved her daughter, but unknowingly neglected her when she was needed (1981: Royal Wedding/2008:Left her in the car)
I really liked the dream sequence, it led you into what Alex was feeling and i think that was good for those, who may have just come into the series. It also helped to re-establish the guilt Alex must constantly have felt as an adult and a child. First for having survived and then reliving it and not trying hard enough to save them.
The sequence where Caroline comforts Alex, is most likely a dream. Alex is in a world that gets more confusing, where she forgets things, cannot remember her daughters face. It is possible that Alex's subconscious was reminding her of why she cannot give up, who better to tell her she was being distracted then her mother, as Alex envisioned her a few time to get motivated in the first series. The reaffirming of her mothers love, helps her push back the guilt and instead focus on what is more important.
However, i am willing to dabble in the idea that it was a message, much like the ones Alex accumulates from the future (I am in no way say Caroline is now in 2008).
Often when Alex gets a message it is a reminder, for information or a warning.
I do not recall exactly what Caroline said, but it seemed as though by reminding Alex that she was loved, it would in turn allow Alex to want her daughter to know, that she loved her.
When Caroline says she must go back home, because she has a daughter, i wonder if it is a warning.
Molly rarely comes through as a vision of much use (No offence, i do love the character), she is just used as a reminder, and at the beginning Molly humanizes Alex and gives reason for the way she behaves, but unlike the offer visions (Clown, Doctors), she is not there to warn or relay information. It makes me wonder if Caroline is telling her to get back, because Molly is in danger. Her life is on a knife edge, so to speak and that is why she seems ghost like in the 1980s, she is neither here nor there, and it is why perhaps Alex cannot look at her directly.
