A little explanation for those who may not have been with us back when we first invented these back in the early days of Luigis MK1 in 2008.
A notepad thread is, in a very basic explanation, watching Ashes to Ashes with a notepad and writing things down.
Why on Earth would anybody do this?
There are some of us who believe that when Alex first uttered the line "everything is significant", she litterally meant it (or atleast, the writers did).
A lot of TV shows can be watched passively and taken at face value.
We believe Ashes is different and the notepad threads are intended to deconstruct the episodes and take a closer look at what we see.
By deconstructing the episode we take it apart bit by bit and look at all it's component parts...We take into account everything, not just the action going on in the foreground, but everything that is on the screen in the background too.
(Edit: How many people have failed to spot the shadow of a weathervane hidden in the background in certain scenes???)You may read discussion threads about episodes and notice that various things crop up time and time again, for instance there is the frequent use of the colour red and the number seven. These are simply two of the many things we have made note of.
The notepad threads seek to identify and point out where these potentially significant items crop up in episodes.
We identify an item of significance...It could be anything - a colour, an object, a line with a possible dual meaning, and once identified we ask why it might be of significance.
Why was there so much use of red in that scene?
Why is the lighting the way it is in a certain scene?
Why is a certain item in the background?
What does a colour represent? (Example: red - blood, danger, death, passion)
What's the deal with the constant use of relfections and mirror images?
All this helps us try to put together the pieces that make up this immensley complex puzzle that is Ashes.
Have a browse through our notepad threads and you may well be amazed at the things our eagle eyed members have spotted......
Remember, we also have a 'Notepad thread' section in our series 1 and 2 areas on the forum too. Have a look and see what we guessed right!
Edited 27/4/10 to add: It would seem the fame of the Luigis 'Notepad thread' has now spread and even D.I Drake herself has now got in on the act and joined in....
